Anti-Aging With Spermidine And Resveratrol – The Perfect Combination For Anti-Aging

Researchers worldwide are figuring out spermidine's potential. It can act positively at different sites and in a wide variety of cells in the body. It is significantly involved in maintaining overall metabolism, cellular function and human health. However, at the molecular level, "autophagy" (the internal cleaning program of the cell) is the main action of spermidine. This makes it seem like a possible all-around anti-aging agent. Resveratrol also triggers the recycling process in cells that rejuvenates us, but in different ways. In combination, however, the two mesh like cogs to boost autophagy even better.

Autophagy – Self-Cleaning Process Of The Cells

Autophagy is a vital process in cells. In this process, old, damaged or even superfluous proteins, fats and cell organelles are broken down. The individual parts are then reused. Autophagy is supposed to keep the degradation of old and the production of new cell components in balance. It also slows down the aging process, protects against infections and prevents various diseases. It is a naturally occurring process. However, it can be disturbed by certain behaviors or, as it is usually desired, it can be consciously activated. And this is where spermidine and resveratrol come into play.

A Special Team – Spermidine And Resveratrol

The goal, i.e. to boost autophagy in cells, is the same, but the way to get there is different. Resveratrol induces the recycling process that rejuvenates us by activating the so-called deacetylases. Spermidine, on the other hand, inhibits acetylases. Both substances are enzymes that, despite their close relationship, have completely different effects on autophagy.

Deacetylases activate autophagy, while acetylases block it. Therefore, if you want to activate self-cleaning in cells, you can either activate the deacetylases (as resveratrol does), or inhibit the acetylases (as spermidine does).

However, an international team of researchers from the Université Paris-Sud found out why a combination of spermidine and resveratrol makes more sense:

Both substances work synergistically together and mesh like cogs to boost autophagy. The researchers can only explain this by the fact that the two complement each other and build up to a potent overall effect on autophagy. According to the motto: Together we are strong! A combination of the two therefore seems advisable.

Foods with Spermidine And Resveratrol

Foods high in spermidine include whole grain or wheat germ, pumpkin seeds, aged cheese (cheddar), mushrooms, soy products, and legumes.

Resveratrol is found in a number of plants and plant foods, most notably grapes, raspberries, mulberries, plums, peanuts and Japanese knotweed but also red wine.

However, even if these foods contain spermidine and resveratrol, they are only trace amounts that do not approach the effective doses of a dietary supplement. One would have to eat vast quantities of them, which is simply not possible. Dietary supplements therefore have the advantage that they can be used to target higher doses than food.

Pay Attention To Good Quality In Dietary Supplements

In the meantime, spermidine and resveratrol are also offered everywhere as dietary supplements. However, the quality of these is crucial. It is also important that exactly how much spermidine or resveratrol is contained in each capsule, tablet, etc. is stated.

Caution: dietary supplements are not a substitute for a varied diet. A balanced diet and a healthy lifestyle are important.
